Unfortunately, for those with disabilities it can be difficult working out just how accessible a restaurant, hotel or any sort of venue is. With over 10 million disabled people in Britain, one of Purple Hound’s main aims is to let these people know what sort of facilities and services a place has to accommodate them.
That’s why we’ve come up with a series of stickers which rate venues as to how accessible they are, with a clear breakdown of the difference of venues confirmed by our 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 star ratings stickers. In addition to these, we have our core principals standard Purple Hound sticker, and the Sound as a Hound sticker; this last one recognises special efforts made by a retailer or venue in ensuring accessibility for all.
Our idea is to get as many Purple Hound stickers as possible into retailers, cafes, bars, hotels, restaurants, and all sorts of other venues, on the basis that owners understand the problem of UK accessibility, and are happy to commit to improving standards. Those who commit to Purple Hound’s core aims will be allowed to place a standard Purple Hound sticker in their window.
